How to trade Bitcoin in the UK

Understand spot Bitcoin, the retail derivatives restriction, and simulated prop accounts before choosing a route.

By BitcoinLeverage · Sources reviewed 2026-09-30

The UK rules distinguish buying Bitcoin from trading crypto derivatives. A prop firm's willingness to accept your application does not establish a regulatory exemption.

Buying the asset

Spot Bitcoin

Spot ownership is a different activity from a crypto derivative. Check the provider's FCA registration and the applicable consumer protections.

Is Bitcoin trading banned in the UK?

There is no basis for treating every Bitcoin-related activity as banned. The product and provider matter: buying the underlying asset, buying an exchange-traded note and entering a derivative are different routes.

What does a Tradeify247 account provide?

According to its terms, trading generally uses notional capital and simulated execution. You pay an account fee and must satisfy the account and payout conditions. You do not own the underlying Bitcoin through the account.

Can UK residents apply?

The United Kingdom is absent from the provider's published restricted-residency list as checked on 30 September 2026. That describes provider policy only. It is not an independent assessment of lawfulness or a guarantee of acceptance.

Before choosing a provider

Check the legal entity and relevant regulatory registers, ask the provider to explain its UK offering, read the contract and payout rules, and distinguish the account fee from trading capital. Review any tax obligations that apply to your circumstances.
